SHEnergy is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of electric and gas energy to one of the world’s largest cities and the surrounding area in Shanghai. SHEnergy has a most innovative and creative plan to build an International Energy Innovation Centre (SIEIC) in Shanghai so that enables one of the biggest Chinese state-owned enterprises to take full advantage of the technology evolution in clean environmentally safe fields.

In Cambridge Guildhall on July 28th, in the presence of the Mayor of Cambridge, the Member of Parliament for Cambridge Dr Daniel Zeichner, representatives of Cambridge University and the local government, as well as businessmen and women, a very important agreement was signed, for collaboration between Cambridge, the Chinese company BBD  (Business Big Data) and Cambridge Technology Capital Partners – a company established to enable cross border investment between UK and China – to ensure good ideas about the commercialisation of research are turned into REALITY with SHEnergy, China’s biggest company in its field. The Guildhall meeting followed extensive discussions and meetings at Innovation Centres and Science Parks in Cambridge involving the SHEnergy group during their productive visit to Cambridge.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Cambridge Technology Capital Partners and SHEnergy, is especially significant since it heralds REAL collaboration and the planning of activities whereby UK organisations would explore tangible channels to participate in one of the biggest deals of its kind. Through the services offered by the BBD Accelerator in London, the building of practical bridges - whereby innovative companies from the UK with China potential and Chinese growth companies seeking entry to UK markets - can all be better facilitated.

The agreement included joint activities in development of a UK & China ecosystem, acceleration programmes for UK companies entering the vast Chinese market through SIEIC, as well as a dedicated fund being set up to enable investment into quality UK companies. Within this framework, both BBD Accelerator and Cambridge Technology Capital Partners would be the principal partners that support the development of SIEIC.

Cambridge Technology Capital Partners and BBD UK are organisations vigorously in support of the kind of UK–China collaboration represented by the SHEnergy programme, with the engagement of UK partners. Watch this space!
