New lettings showcase benefits for private sector at West Cambridge site

New lettings at the Broers Building, part of the Hauser Forum development - which, uniquely on the West Cambridge site, offers accommodation to commercial organisations engaged in or supporting research and development - showcase the benefits of private sector occupation within the University owned and occupied site.

The transactions also illustrate the care taken by the developer and the University to ensure that occupiers complement the activities on site.

Most recently Dr Mike Lynch’s new venture Invoke Capital has taken a lease of approx. 5,868 sq ft on the third floor of the building which Featurespace (where Mike Lynch is a non-executive director) shares. Invoke’s welcome presence within the Hauser Forum should serve to add weight to the activities and offer in the Entrepreneurship Centre through the IdeaSpace Enterprise Accelerator and Cambridge Enterprise.

In the summer existing occupier the Nokia Research Centre expanded to take a further approx. 2,614 sq ft on the second floor of the building in addition to the 7,717 sq ft which they currently occupy on the ground and first floors of the building. Nokia works closely with several university departments on the West Cambridge site.

The building is now more than 80% let. On the second floor, terms have been agreed for a letting of a suite of 174 sq m / 1,872 sq ft to an unnamed technology company.  A suite of approx. 579 sq m / 6,232 sq ft remains available on the second floor and a further suite of approx. 718 sq ft could be released shortly. Developers and Broers Building owners, Nafield Properties (a joint venture between Turnstone Estates and Burall Developments) remain committed to leasing the space to technology companies to whom the West Cambridge site is a value added location.

Chris Goldsmith of Nafield Properties confirmed ‘we are pleased that the Broers Building is fulfilling a need for commercial R&D space on the West Cambridge Site and that occupiers are obviously being made welcome by the University community’.
