www.cambridgechildrens.org.uk will take the project though the next exciting phase of development to build a children’s hospital for the east of England – currently the only region in the UK without one.

Earlier this year an internationally-renowned design team was appointed to draw up plans for the new hospital. Work is progressing rapidly with a view to Cambridge Children’s Hospital opening its doors to children and young people in 2025/26.

The website sets out Cambridge Children’s vision to be the first hospital in the world to bring together mental and physical healthcare to treat the whole child, not just the illness.

World-leading research will develop treatments of the future and help prevent disease before it even exists.

The new Cambridge Children’s website highlights inspiring stories from existing patients at Cambridge University Hospitals and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trusts, who are jointly developing the new hospital, along with Cambridge University.

Visitors to the site will be able to meet Max, Alex, Max, Zofeya, Phoebe and Jasmine who each have a special story to share.

Together they have helped created an inspiring video, narrated by Cambridge Children’s ambassador, Stephen Fry.

The actor, comedian and writer, said: “I am delighted to support Cambridge Children’s Hospital, the first purpose-built hospital to integrate children’s mental and physical healthcare.

“It is my great pleasure to introduce this film, which features children and young people who will benefit from this new hospital and its pioneering approach to treat children in a whole new way.”

Alex White, project director, said: “Cambridge Children’s will be a hospital built for children with the help of children, young people, their families, carers and healthcare professionals.

“We’ve been delighted to engage as many as possible in getting the project to this stage of its development.

“We are now encouraging anyone who wants to find out more and perhaps get involved themselves to visit our new website.”

Cambridge Children’s is a unique collaboration between Cambridge University Hospitals, the University of Cambridge and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.

Planned to open in 2025/6, Cambridge Children’s Hospital will provide a whole new way of caring for children and young people. The first hospital of its kind, we will provide physical and mental healthcare under one roof, embedded with genomic and physiological research, to care for the whole child.

This is a world’s first hospital. A whole new way of thinking.
