Hosted by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Cambridge BioResource (CBR), research nurses from around the country are invited to attend the symposium on Friday 18th November to connect, share practice and celebrate the speciality.

Research nurses play an important and diverse role in the delivery of research throughout the country and the day will bring a unique opportunity for nurses to meet colleagues and share experience. Research nursing is a growing speciality, as patient involvement in research continues to increase, and the symposium will showcase this exciting and dynamic area of nursing practice.

Key speakers include Dr Susan Hamer, Director of Nursing, Learning and Organisational Development for the NIHR Clinical Research Network and Claire Whitehouse, Lead Research Nurse at James Paget University Hospital and originator of the successful social media campaign, ‘#Whywedoresearch’. The programme will be diverse, with speakers representing many different areas of research nursing, including clinical trials, the Clinical Research Network, paediatrics, intensive care/emergency department and translational research.

The symposium will be hosted by the NIHR CBR Research Nurses, winners of the 2015 Nursing Times Award for Clinical Research Nursing.

Kelly Beer, Lead Research Nurse for the NIHR CBR said: “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with the NIHR to host this symposium. Our team is passionate about our role as research nurses and our ability to positively influence how research is delivered. The symposium will be a great chance to meet others working in similar roles, with similar goals of ensuring the best possible research experience for volunteers.”

John Bradley, Director of the NIHR BioResource and Research and Development at Cambridge University Hospitals said:  “We look forward to welcoming you to Cambridge to celebrate and share recent advances in nursing research that are improving on our understanding of disease and how healthcare can be delivered. The full impact can only be realised at a national level by sharing experiences and expertise, and the symposium provides a fantastic opportunity for achieving this.”

The event will be held at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. Places are limited, for more information and to register please go to http://www.profbriefings.co.uk/cbrsymposium2016/
