Peter Cooper from Norwich has won the Institution of Civil Engineers East of England Emerging Engineers Award.

Peter's paper 'Smart Buildings as Lego Bricks for a New Generation of Smart Cities' was declared the winner in a very close competition. He received £250 and a certificate from Regional Director Glen Owen and will go forward to the southern semi-final later in the year.

The runner up is Steve Tideswell who presented his paper 'Environmental Management - An Engineers Perspective' which also scored highly with the judges.

The ICE East of England Emerging Engineers Award (Formerly the Graduate and Student Papers Competition) is held every year to promote and reward excellence in the communication of civil engineering issues and ideas.

Graduate and student members submit papers on any topic related to civil engineering. It is an opportunity for all graduate and student members at the start of their careers who wish to improve their written, presentation and debating skills.
