Building on the success of earlier editions, the competition has already established itself as a catalyst for innovative seed and early-stage ventures. To date, it has attracted over 70 startup applications, with 9 winners selected for their groundbreaking and impactful ideas spanning life sciences, tech/AI, and green innovation.
The winning startups from previous editions represent a diverse range of industries and innovations. These include Geromics, a Cambridge-based startup empowering individuals to access personalised healthcare across the globe; Beacon Family Services, a not-for-profit organisation enhancing children’s emotional development; GitLife Biotech, a Newcastle-based company driving advancements in healthcare and biotechnology; and RouteZero, a greentech venture committed to decarbonising business travel. Other winners include Biiah, focused on improving people’s health, and Matrix Bio, a pioneering TechBio company revolutionising the design and optimisation of hydrogels. Creative innovation was showcased by SimplyArt AI, leveraging artificial intelligence to transform the future of creative expression, while DocMe is making healthcare more accessible through digital technology. Most recently, Axia Medicine is scaling globally to redefine access to personalised medicines.
Each of these startups has benefitted from the comprehensive support package offered through the kickstarter award. This includes cost advantages, dedicated project management, access to a highly skilled team of full-stack developers, as well as business analysis and CTO-level technical guidance. Collectively, these benefits have enabled winners to accelerate product development, navigate complex technical challenges, and bring their innovations to market faster.
On winning the 3rd edition, here is what Axia Medicine CEO Alessandro Riccombeni has to say:
