CSER is an interdisciplinary research centre within the University of Cambridge focused on the study and mitigation of risks that could lead to human extinction or civilisational collapse. Set up by Lord Martin Rees, Professor Huw Price and Skype co-founder Jaan Tallin, its research brings together some of the best minds from academia, technology and policy, including CSER Advisors Professor Stephen Hawking and technologist and inventor Elon Musk.
CSER works to examine the nature of these risks, to ensure that developments in powerful new technologies such as synthetic biology and artificial intelligence are safe and beneficial. The research centre aims to study and evaluate both current and future risks; develop collaborative strategies to collaborate with academics, technologists and policymakers; and foster a global community with the common goal of reducing existential risk.
Onespacemedia was hired to revamp CSER’s website and create a platform that better communicates the areas of their work in a structured, easily navigable and simple to manage format. The team achieved this by applying best in practice user experience techniques to enhance visitor engagement and streamline the delivery of information to CSER’s audiences. The company’s logo was also refined to improve the balance between the typography and the logo marque.
George Hadfield, Lead Producer at Onespacemedia, commented “CSER is working on a global level to reduce the risk of human extinction, with a team made up of some of the most influential figures in academia and technology. We’re honoured to have worked for a Centre undertaking such important research - and to build a platform that communicates the breadth of their research to help drive their work forward.”
Seán Ó hÉigeartaigh, CSER’s Executive Director, said: “We are delighted with the new website. It presents our work in an easy to navigate and eye-catching way. Onespacemedia were great to work with: creative, quick and responsive.”
