Outstanding health and safety wins top award for Cambridge Regional College

Cambridge Regional College has won a top award for its outstanding health and safety performance – one of the first FE colleges in the country to do so.

The prestigious Order of Distinction is RoSPA’s highest achievement and is presented to organisations which have won a minimum of 16 consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said high-performing organisations such as CRC set the standard for others to follow.

“The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board,” he said.

“Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems such as Cambridge Regional College, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”

The college had already clocked up gold medals and president’s awards before moving on to the distinction of the Order of Merit.

The RoSPA Awards, which date back 58 years, recognise commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention at work – part of its mission to save lives and reduce injuries.

CRC Health and Safety Manager Jeff Moody said he was delighted that the college had received such a prestigious award.

“As a college we place a great deal of importance in the health and safety of our students, staff and visitors and are continually looking at ways of improving all that we do in this area.

“I’m absolutely delighted that we have won such a prestigious award after a fantastic 16 consecutive gold medals, one of the first FE colleges in the country to do so.”

The award will be presented by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents at a ceremony at the National Exhibition Centre next month.
