Papworth pair prepare for marathon attempt in support of disability charity

A pair of runners from the same village club will be pounding the streets of the capital when they take their place in the London Marathon this weekend.

Papworth Runners’ duo Paula Fisher (pictured) and Siobhan Costello will be taking part in the landmark event in support of leading disability charity Papworth Trust.

Paula, a PE teacher at Comberton Village College, only started running last year but she has wasted little time clocking up the miles since getting the bug.

A half marathon in Amsterdam in October was followed by the Cambridge Half last month ahead of her first London Marathon on Sunday (24 April).

Paula, 35, said: “I am very excited and cannot wait to fulfil my lifelong ambition to run the distance with lots of support to motivate me on the day.

“Papworth Trust is a very worthy charity and seems appropriate and relevant that it is the most local charity to our running club – the Papworth Runners, which was set up last year and now meet every Wednesday night.”

Having completed five marathons in the past, Siobhan admitted London might be her final one as she looks to overcome bad former memories of the event.

Having been forced to pull out from the 2015 London Marathon after suffering a torn muscle in her leg, Siobhan said: “Any marathon is such a challenge but such an achievement when you get it done.”

Siobhan, 52, from Papworth Everard, has completed two marathons in Dublin and two in Inverness.
