Papworth Trust chairs crucial conference for young people

The chief executive of Papworth Trust will be chairing a conference to discuss the future of young adults with additional needs living in the East of England.

The Transition Event East conference aims to provide support and advice to parents, carers and professionals who support young people with additional needs.

It is being supported by Papworth Trust with chief executive Vicky McDermott chairing the conference on Wednesday 9th November.

Vicky said: “I am delighted to be chairing this important conference looking at what the future holds for young adults with additional needs.

“Housing and work needs for disabled people are big priorities for Papworth Trust going forward.

“The Government has set an ambitious target of getting more than one million disabled people into work by 2020 – but how is this being achieved locally? The conference will address this and a lot more.”

Now in its 10th year, the national conference and free exhibition is coming to the East of England for the first time.

The Transition Event East, organised by Care Choices in association with My Family Your Needs, will see expert speakers discuss employment, housing options, education, health and care plans.

Interactive workshops, covering topics such as benefits and volunteering, will also encourage young people, their parents, carers or professionals to ask the questions that matter to them.

The free exhibition will introduce attendees to products, services and local organisations designed to make life easier.

The Transition Event East is taking place at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough West, on Wednesday 9th November.

Schools are encouraged to bring along young people to the free exhibition while discounted conference tickets are available for parents.
