The awards programme identifies exceptional innovation in technologies used by life science professionals today. Winners are judged based on the products’ technical merit, functionality, innovation, and in-person presentations to the judges at the show. Forty-six new products were considered in six categories and the judges viewed presentations on site from 18 finalists.
PetaGene won for the Cloud Edition (CE) of its PetaSuite genome data compression product. The Cloud Edition provides two significant innovations for users:
- the ability for a user’s software tools and pipelines to seamlessly integrate with a wide variety of cloud storage platforms without modification. AWS, Azure, GCP, private cloud and hybrid cloud are all supported transparently.
- significantly improved, high-performance, scalable PetaSuite genomic compression technology. Lossless compression ratios of up to 10x for GATK BAM files are now possible. All other file types can now also achieve considerable improvements to compression ratios.
The 2018 judging panel represented the great and the good of the life sciences, pharmaceutical, clinical, healthcare and IT development worlds. In her award citation for PetaSuite CE, Allison Proffit, Bio-IT World Editor, said: “the judges were very impressed with an offering that lets users access data compression, objects in storage or an s3 bucket, all from the command line.”
