A14 Girton to Histon (junctions 31 to 32): Lane gain scheme
Work to add an additional lane on the A14 in each direction between Girton and Histon and improve slip roads onto the M11 and A14, as part of the Government’s Pinchpoint Programme, will start on 14 April. The work will mainly take place during the day, with existing lanes narrowed and a 50mph speed limit imposed, but some overnight lane and road closures will also be required, and details will be made available as the scheme progresses.
Closures for this week are as follows:
· overnight lane closures (between 8pm and 6am) eastbound and westbound from the A428 onto the A14 through the Girton interchange from 14 to 17 April.
· overnight narrow lanes (between 8pm and 6am) on both eastbound and westbound A14 slip roads (the two cloverleaf loops) from the 14 to 17 April.
Diversions will be in place using the M11, A505 and A11. The planned completion is December 2014.
ONGOING WORK
M11 Motorway Cambridgeshire: Central reserve barrier repair
Central reserve barrier repair works on the M11 between junction 10 and junction 12 in Cambridgeshire continue from 9pm to 5.30am the following morning. The outside lane will be closed in both directions during the work. Work is due to be completed on 25 April 2014.
A11 Cambridgeshire: Central reserve barrier repair
Central reserve barrier repair works on the A11 between the M11 junction 9a, Stumps Cross, and the A14 in Cambridgeshire continue from 8pm to 5.30am the following morning. The outside lane will be closed in both directions only while work takes place, except between the A505 (Abington) and the Worsted Lodge junction, where it will be closed 24 hours a day for safety reasons. Work is due to be completed on 23 May 2014.
A11 Fiveways to Thetford, Suffolk: Major upgrade
Work is taking place along the A11 between Fiveways roundabout (Barton Mills) and London Road (Thetford roundabout) to dual the last section of the road. During the works, there will be a temporary speed restriction of 40mph throughout the scheme.
Two way temporary traffic signals will be in use as follows:
· To allow heavy plant to cross the A11 at various points between Fiveways roundabout and Thetford roundabout during peak hours, Monday to Saturday between 7am and 7pm.
· Overnight on the A11, when required. When in use, these will be in operation between 7pm and 6am.
Two-way traffic is now running on some new sections of carriageway. This will allow construction work to start on opposing parts of the carriageway.
Traffic on the B1106 is now using the new alignment across the new bridge. Traffic signals will be in place and used throughout the day and overnight as required for completion of verge works. There is a temporary speed restriction of 30mph imposed on the Centre Parcs side of the B1106.
The B1112 is closed on a 500-metre stretch on either side of the A11 to allow for the construction of a new underpass to carry the B1112 under the A11. There will be no access between the B1112 and the A11and a localised 40mph speed restriction on the A11 near the B1112 crossroads will be in place. Traffic wishing to access the A1101 or the A1065 from the A11 will be diverted via the Fiveways roundabout. The B1112 will remain open for local access at the A1065 near Eriswell and the A1101 near Icklingham and a temporary 40mph speed restriction will be in place along the B1112 for safety reasons.
The C616 is closed at the Junction with the A11. Access will be maintained via the A1065, Brandon Road.
The planned completion date is December 2014. For further details of this scheme, visit:
