This near tripling of transport investment has been welcomed by local MP, Daniel Zeichner, as a win for local passengers.
The cash is earmarked to improve local public transport, for example funding cleaner zero-emission buses, addressing congestion, and making streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
It is now up to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to decide which projects to prioritise in the region.
Daniel Zeichner MP said: “This welcome boost to our region’s public transport will play a key role in cutting congestion and tackling the climate emergency. I will be closely following the Combined Authority’s plans on how they will invest this Labour Government funding.”
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said: "Good transport connections are the foundation of thriving communities, which is why we're backing local authorities to transform journeys for millions of people across England. “This investment will help councils to improve transport for local people - from cleaner buses to safer cycling routes - connecting communities with jobs, education and essential services."
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will receive £5.8m in 2026/27 – £1.2m more than last year – rising to £8.8m in 2027/28, £11.8m in 2028/29, and £14m in 2029/30.
