Leading manufacturers of smartphones, media players, headphones, speakers and other Bluetooth audio products worldwide are steadily embracing the aptX HD audio technology with a number of products now available since launching a little over a year ago.

“aptX was one of the first audio technologies to bring pro-audio quality to wireless consumer devices and has become synonymous with superior sound quality with many audiophiles and premium audio manufacturers,” said Anthony Murray, senior vice president and general manager, Voice and Music, Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. “As some smartphone manufacturers are removing the traditional headphone jack and more consumers are experiencing the quality of sound available today over Bluetooth, the demand for high quality wireless audio devices is growing rapidly.”

aptX HD meets this demand by delivering 24-bit audio over a Bluetooth wireless connection. As well as accepting a 24-bit audio input, 24-bit audio resolution is maintained by using an extra two bits in each of the four sub-bands of processing. This results in lower signal-to-noise ratio through the encode/decode cycle and less distortion, ensuring clean, clear and crisp music, making aptX HD ideal for use as part of a high-resolution audio solution.

The recent announcement that aptX HD will be supported on Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 offers increased power efficiency and a more simplified integration process for mobile device OEMs.

Devices that now support aptX HD include:

  • Mobile Devices:
    • Onkyo Granbeat Smartphone
    • T&G Luna S Smartphone
    • Vertu Constellation X Smartphone
    • A&K Media Players
    • LG G5
    • LG V20
  • Headphones and wireless speakers:
    • Audio Technica ATH-DSR9BT and ATH-DSR7BT Headphones
    • LG Tone Platinum and LG Tone Active + Headphones
    • NAIM Uniti Series
    • Astell & Kern XB10 Receiver
    • Bluewave GET Headphone Amplifier

“We are committed to delivering the best audio quality possible for our customers, which is why we have chosen to integrate aptX HD into our recently launched Granbeat smartphone to help deliver clean, clear and precise wireless sound,” said Kevin Miyagi, president, Onkyo & Pioneer Innovations Corporation.

Takayuki Matsunaga, public relations and advertising department manager, Audio-Technica said, “At Audio-Technica sound quality comes first. aptX HD has allowed us to develop a range of headphones that meet the need for convenience and mobility without compromising on audio quality.”
