Ready or not, here they come… the top 5 marketing horrors

Making mistakes is human. However, for your marketing to be successful, you need to make as few errors as possible. That way, it’ll be more wonderful than witch-like!

So here are the top 5 marketing horrors that we witness most often (mwah ha ha):

1. Invisible punctuation, ghastly spelling and other grammatical ghouls – always double check what you’ve written in blogs, Facebook posts, tweets, website content and all printed copy, as not doing so shows a lack of care and professionalism.

2. Making a social media page, only to leave it for dead! Neglecting your accounts on Facebook and Twitter (to name but a few) for months on end can give a bad impression of your business and makes you look lazy.

3. Spending time and money on a clever concoction designed to amaze and entice potential clients, while keeping hold of existing ones (such as a brochure, flyer or promotional gift), and then not following it up with a call. A few minutes spent on the phone, reminding a business of the item you sent them, may spark life into the relationship, resulting in a new client. Without it, you’ll probably be just another forgotten soul…

4. Sounding like a robot when doing telemarketing – use a script as a guide, not a word for word speech. Think more Luke Skywalker and less C3PO (certainly not Chewbacca!) People on the phone like to know they’re speaking to a ‘real’ person. As a result, they’re more likely to spend longer talking to you and to take you up on offers.

5. Design that makes your skin crawl! A badly designed website or a lifeless leaflet will give people the spooks and scare off potential customers, so make sure you do your research and take the time to get it right.

If you think you’re at risk of any of these marketing horrors, please give us a call or send us an email, and we’ll be more than happy to banish them for good!
