They recycle whatever they can at CPM - cans, plastic, cardboard, paper, and have separate bins and bags (environmentally friendly ones, of course) for everything. Now they are working with Rethink Europe to raise money for charity by collecting, reusing and recycling old mobile phones, printer cartridges, DVDs, laptops, cameras and other electronic devices. The Rethink Appeal has already raised £7 million for charity, saved over 3 million used mobiles phones and over 35 million printer cartridges from landfill - and it's completely free.
With over 1,500 landfill sites producing the powerful greenhouse gas methane, at CPM they recognise that responsibility to the environment goes beyond legal and regulatory requirements. As a publishing services provider they are committed to reducing our environmental impact and integrating the improvement of environmental performance into their business strategy and operating methods. Jackie signed their new Environmental Policy (available on their website) on 23 January, after which they sent their first consignment to Rethink. Julie, Senior Mac Operator and Recycling expert says, "I've been ruthless in sorting out our collection of old IT equipment for disposal and it's great to know it's going to good use".
Rethink partners can choose from a list of charities or start an appeal of their own, or support their local school, Scout or Guide group. CPM's chosen charity is Pets As Therapy who provide therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, and special needs schools. Since it was founded in 1983, the charity has registered over 28,000 dogs who every week bring comfort and companionship to thousands of people, both young and old. Today there are over 5,000 active PAT dogs and a smaller number of PAT cats working throughout the UK.
CPM are also working with Green IT Disposal Ltd who are a fully licensed computer recycler.
