The Rising Festival 2019: #BalanceforBetter for International Women’s Day

The Rising Festival will take place on Saturday 9 March and promises to be a thought-provoking day with plenty of opportunities for personal growth and professional development among speakers and attendees from a diversity of backgrounds.

It will use the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day – Balance for Better – as the foundation for a series of open conversations, talks and workshops from high-profile speakers from fields including business, health and broadcasting.

This year’s event will feature more than 30 speakers, including Professor Dame Carol Black, Dame Mary Archer, Kamel Hothi OBE, financial planner Claire LaRue, award-winning spoken word artist Jaspreet Kaur, Sharon Allen OBE and this year’s festival MC, Zara Janjua, TV presenter and producer on ITV’s This Morning.

They will give talks, sit on panels for open conversations and lead workshops around four core themes: leadership and career journeys, money matters, overcoming life challenges and changing direction. The topics have been chosen to provide value to everyone who attends, no matter what stage of life or career they may be at.

The event is organised by the Rising Network, a group launched by Cambridge entrepreneur Lily Cheng to support the professional, personal and social development of women. The first Rising Festival took place last year.

Lily said: “I’m incredibly excited to bring this year’s programme to the festival, and grateful that we’ve been able to attract so many big names.

“With gender parity issues having received significant recognition in 2018, we’re hoping that 2019 will see further strides towards equal pay and equal opportunities for women at work. That’s why we’re getting behind the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day in such a big way.

“I can’t wait to welcome everyone to this year’s Rising Festival for what promises to be a hugely valuable and memorable day, packed with opportunities for growth and chances to learn from fascinating and successful people from all walks of life.

“The Rising Festival would not be possible if it was not for the generous support of our sponsors.

A huge thank you to KISS Communications, Price Bailey Legal Services, PB Financial Planning, The Cambridge Building Society and Factotum. We are extremely grateful for their help in making the Festival possible!”

The Rising Festival will take place from 9.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday 9 March 2019, at St Barnabas Church on Mill Road in Cambridge. Tickets start at £40 and attendance is included in membership of the Rising Network.
