Scientific stocking is first step in supporting science club at local school

Domino Printing Sciences has donated a selection of items as resource materials to enhance science lessons – the first step towards sponsoring a regular after-school Science Club.

Christmas came early for the children and teachers at Bar Hill Community Primary School when they were presented with a box of scientific equipment to use in the classroom.

The scientific ‘stocking’ from  Domino Printing Sciences including five Log Box Data Loggers to enable pupils to make links between science and technology and use electronic sensors to monitor the environment; two Electricity Kits for studying how electricity works and designing circuits; a Gardman Complete Feeding Station to help the children study changes in wildlife throughout the year; Wildlife World Hedgehog Care Pack and six sets of Toplek Binoculars; Four Kingfisher Wooden Nest Boxes and all-year round bird seed and wild peanut feeders.

The Science Club, which will be established during 2018, will give children the opportunity to access scientific enrichment activities, encouraging them to engage in the subject and potentially decide to study it at a later stage. Domino employees will play an active part in the Club, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with the pupils.

Christina Bird, Senior Analytical Chemist and Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Ambassador at Domino said: “Key Domino staff are currently working towards providing support and activities including events during the Spring and Summer terms as outlined in the school’s curriculum.

“I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to lead this exciting collaboration between Domino and Bar Hill Community Primary”.

Dr Al Mistrano, Headteacher added: “This is an amazing chance to create huge enrichment opportunities that we would otherwise have been unable to provide for the children.

“We look forward to working with Domino scientists and engineers who will show the children the real science and engineering happening within the local community, and the fun involved with being a scientist or engineer.  It will also let the children see the career opportunities STEM subjects can create. We are bowled over by Domino’s generosity and commitment towards the community.”
