Second major honour for Barclays degree

Anglia Ruskin University’s Retail Development Programme for Barclays has won the Best School Leaver Programme at the Target Jobs 2013 National Graduate Recruitment Awards.

Anglia Ruskin and Barclays triumphed despite strong competition from a shortlist including Accenture, Aviva, Bank of England, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, CGI, Siemens and Rolls-Royce.

The awards, which are the largest of their kind in Europe and attracted over 100,000 votes from undergraduates and school leavers, were presented by comedian Rob Brydon at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Anglia Ruskin and Barclays have, in partnership, designed, developed and managed the Retail Development Programme, which is based around Anglia Ruskin’s BA (Hons) degree in Management & Leadership.

The programme specifically targets new talent, with the aim of trainees achieving the position of branch manager or equivalent within three years of starting the course.

Now that the programme has seen three cohorts successfully graduate, there was a significant amount of data available to tell a compelling “valued added” success story and also highlight achievements in relation to diversity, retention, academic success and simultaneous career progression.

The award is the programme’s second success in the last six months, having also won the Talent Attraction and Management Category at the prestigious CIPD National 2012 People Management Awards in October.

Course leader Vanessa Knowles, from Anglia Ruskin’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School, said: “The Best School Leaver Programme is a new category for 2013 at the Target Jobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards and winning it is a particularly notable achievement, as this award was determined by a panel of apprentices and undergraduates supported by a team of mentors drawn from industry and agencies.

“The fact that the programme has received a second national award during this academic year continues to show how Lord Ashcroft International Business School is developing its practice-based agenda and further strengthens Anglia Ruskin’s reputation in the corporate arena.”
