Smartboxx will undertake the manufacture of the trolley bases, the enclosure, the internal air management ducting and several other components. The trolley bases employ an aluminum honeycomb material to minimise weight and the enclosure utilises a composite material.
“We are very pleased to have won the OrganOx contract,” said Karl Sears, Operations Director. “We had a hand in designing the honeycomb internal chassis, the external cladding and internal components for airflow management. We also helped manufacture two units for clinical trials. In this respect, we feel some pride in the success of the project to date, and are excited to be a part of its future growth.”
Smartboxx’s approach to enclosure design is one that is based on the tool-less manipulation of flat sheet plastic by CNC machining, bending and forming, all carried out to strict tolerances. This approach enables its design team to turn around a working prototype within 1 week from receipt of drawings, or approval of CAD/CAM designs.

Smartboxx will be exhibiting at The UK Device Developers’ Conference in Cambridge on 16th May. This is an event for developers of intelligent systems and devices. Smartboxx engineers will be available to explain the innovative techniques that they have developed for enclosure design and rapid prototyping.
