Software protection, licensing and security at UK Device Developers' Conference

A presentation at this year's UK Device Developer's Conference will discuss how manufacturers of embedded systems and software can use licensing to monetise and protect their solutions with central control, secure boot, integrity protection and software/data security.

Wibu-Systems has announced that it will be exhibiting and presenting at this year's UK Device Developer's Conference.

Security and licensing specialist Marcel Hartgerink will be giving a presentation that discusses the challenges of protecting and licensing software, and how best to monetise software solutions.

Wibu-Systems provides technical solutions for software licensing and the protection of software against piracy, reverse engineering & sabotage.

"We are very pleased to be taking part in this year's Conference," said Marcel Hartgerink. "Wibu-Systems has a lot of technology and experience in this increasingly important field. We are looking forward to sharing some key aspects of this knowledge and explaining our products."

The Device Developers’ Conference is a one-day event for engineers, computer scientists and technical managers working in the development of intelligent systems and devices.  The Conference will take place in Bristol, Cambridge, Manchester and Scotland, on May 20th and 22nd, June 3rd and 5th respectively.

The Wibu-Systems presentation will include a discussion regarding the protection of software from illegal use, reverse engineering and theft of intellectual property. It will also explain how the integrity of embedded systems can be ensured through the use of cryptographic methods and secure hardware devices, or software based keys (for key management and data storage). Further to this, Marcel will explain how these security measures also eliminate the risk of manipulation and sabotage of critical systems.

“We are excited to have Wibu-Systems on board for this year’s Conference,” said Richard Blackburn. “They will be bringing a lot of important knowledge to the event; knowledge and experience that I feel sure the delegates will really value. Software protection and licencing is an important issue, so we are pleased to have such a specialist to present.”

Wibu-Systems will be exhibiting its CodeMeter platform at the Conference. CodeMeter enables software vendors and embedded device manufacturers to monetise their intellectual property and also safeguards the integrity of data and code against unauthorized alterations by hackers and malware assuring uninterrupted operations and minimizing fraudulent activities.

The Device Developers' Conference explores the new technologies and tools that are used in the development of embedded systems and electronics. The aim of the event is to provide a productive forum whereby engineers can meet key industry experts from design tool and hardware vendors, as well as undertaking half-day workshops and presentations that offer new skills and knowledge.

The 2014 conference is sponsored by German debug tool company Lauterbach, UK based embedded systems training experts Feabhas, and Italian embedded computer manufacturer Eurotech. Exhibiting companies and presenters will include Wind River, QNX, JTAG Technologies, LDRA and Phaedrus Systems.

The 2014 event will include both a software stream of presentations, and a hardware stream of presentations. Some key topics for this year’s event include Android development, Device to Cloud technology, Open Source Software for Critical Systems and GUI/HMI development."

Attendance at the Device Developers' Conference, including the series of 40-minute technical presentations, is free to engineers and project managers working in the technology sector. The half-day workshops are subject to a small charge.
