This follows the Government’s announcement this week (Tuesday) when the Prime Minister said that everyone who can work from home, should do so. The majority of Council staff have been working effectively from home for several months now.
South Cambridgeshire Hall initially closed to the public back in March at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. It re-opened, for pre-booked appointments only, on Tuesday 15 September. Since then, fewer than 30 residents have visited the office as the vast majority of queries continue to be dealt with via the Council’s website, My South Cambs portal, online platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom or by phone.
As a result, to help minimise the spread of Coronavirus, the building will be closed to the public once again. The Council’s website is being updated to reflect this change, with social messaging also confirming the closure. Signs will also be placed in prominent positions at the front of South Cambs Hall.

The Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cllr Bridget Smith, said: “We are doing everything we can to slow the spread of Coronavirus in South Cambridgeshire and closing our main office to the public is the right and responsible thing to do. It’s up to each and everyone one of us to play our part in reducing the rate of infection. Visitor numbers to South Cambs Hall since it re-opened have been small as most people prefer to carry out their transactions with us via the web or phone. I want to reassure residents the Council remains fully open for business and is doing everything possible to support our amazing communities through this pandemic.”
