Eastern region companies thinking about going into overseas markets are being invited to take part in a three-day taster visit to Spain and Portugal next month.
Organised by UKTI East, the Export Insight visit to Lisbon and Madrid is for those new to exporting and takes place from 18 to 20 January. It will include visits to the British Embassy in both countries, networking opportunities and briefings from in-country experts on the opportunities and practical implications of doing business there. The visit will be rounded off with an opportunity or one to one sessions with UKTI Spain sector specialists.
Says UKTI East Regional Director Alan Pain: “We’ve always had a strong business relationship with both Spain and Portugal and, despite their recent economic performance, things are looking up in both countries. Spain remains a top ten export market for the East of England and has a GDP up 3.4% and Portugal has a GDP up 1.4%. Portugal also has a growing technology sector, which will be of particular interest to companies in this region. Sectors doing well in Spain include energy efficiency, consumer goods (especially luxury brands, food and drink, healthcare and cosmetics), rail, biotechnology and agritechnology. If you’ve a product or service that sells well in the UK it’s worth looking at both Spain and Portugal.”
Some of the current business opportunities to Spain include robotics technology, eco solutions for tourism, food, fashion, mobility and housing, seagull deterrents and suppliers for electric vehicle manufacture.
