Aidan Grenville, Georgina Martin, Robert Norris, Ravin Rupesinghe, Jenny Rodgers, D'Arcy Seamon, year 12 students at the school have been announced after entering their engineering project under the title: “Water management system for refugee camps”.
The students wanted particularly to design something to help people who were disadvantaged in some way and were inspired by many news stories reporting from many of the troubled regions around the world. The team won at the regional heats at The Big Bang Fair Eastern and will now take their project forward to compete in the UK finals at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair in March 2018.
Roger Bett, the team’s teacher commented: “I’m extremely proud of my pupils’ achievements in getting to the final of such a prestigious event. Their project is something that they’re really passionate about and using STEM to try and help people has been so great to see.”

The students will be invited to attend the competition finals, which are taking place at The Big Bang Fair at Birmingham’s NEC in March 2018. Here, they (along with a further ten teams* from the Eastern area) will vie for top prizes including the coveted title of UK Young Engineer and GSK UK Young Scientist of the Year.
