Sixty guests have been given an early preview of Cambridge’s exciting new events space – Acropolis At Caius – right in the heart of the city.

The Gonville & Caius Conference Team recently hosted a Summer Garden Party for event organisers in the grounds of the Cavonius Centre on its West Road site where Acropolis At Caius will be located.

The occasion provided an excellent opportunity to unveil designs for the 2,150 sq ft sophisticated marquee structure, which will provide a unique setting for  meetings, conferences and dinners.

It will be available from July 2019 for a 15-month period whilst some of the College’s kitchen and dining facilities around the Old Courts Main Hall undergo a major refurbishment programme.

Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the garden before hearing a short presentation on the new facility. They were then invited to take part in a treasure hunt with prizes of a Christmas Party for ten people, B&B in College and a fleet of wines on offer to the winners.

Eve Stupart, Conference & Events Manager at Gonville & Caius said: “We were delighted by the response to our Summer Garden Party and preview of Acropolis At Caius. Not only did event organisers see designs for this exciting new space, but they were also able to see where it will be located.

“With the capacity to seat 140 people on round tables for dinner – not often available in Cambridge – Acropolis At Caius will also open on all sides to provide uninterrupted views of the gardens. The concept is already creating interest and we are looking forward to taking event bookings over the next few months.”

Also located on the West Road site are the Cavonius Conference Centre, together with vacation period residential facilities for a capacity of 241 guests over 174 bedrooms in Harvey Court and The Stephen Hawking Building.

The Acropolis At Caius is so called because of its architectural shape and multiple glass sides around its linked hexagonal structures, providing outdoor views into the gardens and mirroring the open aspect of the ancient citadel located above the city of Athens. Up to 140 can be seated on round tables for dinner, up to 100 cabaret style and 180 theatre style.
