Survey looks at marketers' job satisfaction across the Eastern region

How satisfied are marketers in their jobs? Brand Recruitment has just launched a marketing salary survey which examines the main factors relating to job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction is difficult to measure as there are many external factors that can have an impact. Brand Recruitment asked all of the participants if they were happy in their current role: the majority of survey respondents said that they were happy (53%) as opposed to the 36% who said that they were not. This figure could have been affected by the fact that Brand Recruitment are naturally in contact with more people who are actively looking for a new role than those who are not.

This question leads on to the next one which looks at reasons for leaving a role. It is a common misconception that the main reason that people look to move jobs is to secure a pay rise, but it would seem that this is not always the case. The main reason stated in the survey carried out by Brand was to find a new challenge/career progression (31%) with the second most common response being to gain more of a work/life balance (24%). Surprisingly, only 10% of respondents said that their main reason for leaving was related to remuneration.

A possible reason for people leaving their current position for a new role was for a better work/life balance, this could be attributed to the average working hours and commute times of participants. It seems that over recent years there has been a shift away from the standard 9-5 hours with more and more people being expected to work 40+ hours  per week (35% of those surveyed). Along with the longer hours worked, many people are now commuting for longer periods each day to get to and from work.  Those living in Norfolk are travelling to work for on average 60 minutes each way, whilst people leaving in Cambridgeshire had the lowest average commute time of 27 minutes.
