In a ceremony following last Wednesday's Property Week Student Accommodation Conference, rhp was presented with the prestigious award for the University of Cambridge’s post-graduate accommodation at Girton College, which forms part of the new Eddington development in North West Cambridge.
The project provides contemporary accommodation for over 300 students, taking inspiration from traditional Cambridge collegiate architecture while incorporating a number of innovative low-energy and sustainable aspects. Together with social and study spaces, the residences are set around landscaped courtyards with card-controlled access to create a secure environment. The project is named after a Girton mathematician and physicist but is open to students of all subjects, and has good access to a range of University and College facilities.
The win follows rhp’s recent shortlisting for BD Higher Education Architect of the Year 2018.
Andrew Drummond, rhp Associate, comments: "Fantastic news, and a big thank you to Property Week and this year's award sponsors David Phillips Social Living. Designing and delivering amazing living spaces for students is such an important area of work and research for our team. We’re currently working with Universities, Oxbridge Colleges and private developers on a wide range of typologies and some really new and innovative styles of living – drawing together twenty years of experience with our ongoing research, whilst working with curious, enlightened and committed clients to re-think and reimagine the living environment to suit today's and future students' needs. We look forward to sharing our exciting current projects as they complete over the next two years!"
