Dr Stella Pachidi, University Lecturer in Information Systems at Cambridge Judge Business School, was named by the business school publication Poets & Quants to its 40 Under 40 list of talented professors under the age of 40. Stella’s teaching and research focuses on how analytics, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) are challenging traditional procedures in organisations.
“We’re thrilled to include Pachidi on our 40 Under 40 Professors list this year,” says the publication, adding that she received about 60 nominations for the list and was awarded the Cambridge Judge Business School Teaching Award in 2017. Stella teaches the Digital Business core course on the Cambridge MBA curriculum.
Now in its ninth year, the 40 Under 40 list aims to “identify the most talented young professors currently teaching in MBA programmes around the world,” says Poets & Quants, whose list includes professors from 21 business schools in the US and 12 outside the US. The publication this year received more than 2,200 nominations for nearly 150 professors, who are evaluated by its editorial staff based on teaching and research.
The article says: “Pachidi’s research revolves around the rapidly emerging field of artificial intelligence.” Her research interests lie in the intersection of technology, work, and organising. Her passion has been studying how organisations implement emerging algorithmic technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and how this affects the nature of work.
Asked what makes her stand out as a teacher, Stella told the publication: “My excitement about digital innovation which I cannot hide and I am happy to transmit to my students! And the fact that I care about each and every of my students. I will take as long as it needs to ensure that everyone’s questions are answered. My door (or Teams chat lately…) is always open for anyone who needs help or advice.”
One person who nominated Stella for the honour, as quoted by the publication, said: “Stella is a fantastic professor, role model, and mentor. She delivered a simplified approach to a fundamentally quantitative topic like AI, and she has shared her studies and insights at various webinars. Lastly, she mentors students on group projects, and she has been a massive help.”
