Tame your computer - unflag your follow-ups

In her regular series for Cambridge Network members - now in its 15th year - software training expert Karen Roem offers handy tips to help you 'Tame your computer'. This week she explains how to remove flagged messages from your 'For Follow Up' folder using your keyboard (Microsoft Outlook).

Do you flag messages to remind yourself to follow up a specific email? If so, you might have created a 'For Follow Up' Search Folder and added it to your list of Favorites, so that you can see how many items you have on your “to do list”.

It also gives you a one-click access to it, right underneath your Inbox.

From experience I know how easy it is to let that list grow and grow, so here’s a quick way to remove the flag.

  1. Click For Follow Up. (Or use your preferred way to find your flagged emails.)

  2. Use your arrow keys to highlight the flagged message you want to “remove”.

  3. Press the Insert key on your keyboard.

If you do this from the For Follow Up folder you will notice that the message disappears. Don’t worry… that’s just because it is no longer flagged. As a matter of fact, it is now marked as complete, but can still be found in whatever folder it was stored.

By the way, the Insert key is a toggle … you can use it to flag messages or to mark them as complete.
