Top civil engineering student honoured

Andrew McCloud has been awarded the Institution of Civil Engineers East of England Best Student Award where candidates are nominated by their tutors. Andrew is a part-time civil engineering student at Suffolk New College and was nominated by tutor Chris Hughes.

Chris said: "Andrew has worked at a consistently high level and, out of the 12 modules studied, he achieved eight modules at ‘Merit’ grade and two at ‘Distinction’ grade. Consequently, his academic performance has been consistently high across the greater majority of the course."

In the final year of the FdSc programme, Andrew completed his individual research project entitled ‘Is the use of LiDAR improving the monitoring of coastal sediment transfer?’ which was aimed at exploring an issue of direct importance to him in his professional role as an Assistant Coastal Engineer for Norfolk County Council.

This report gained a Distinction grade and, since completing the FdSc in July 2013, Andrew has begun to work on his report with the support of his tutors to have it published as a Briefing Report in the ICE Proceedings.
