Travel for Cambridgeshire: climb on for the summer Cycle Challenge

Travel for Cambridgeshire (TfC) is supporting a two-wheeled celebration with a summer Cycle Challenge following on from its winter warm-up back in January.

The Cambridgeshire Summer Cycle Challenge has been running from the beginning of this month and continues through to 28th June, so this week is your last chance for the opportunity to log your rides to compete individually, and in teams, against friends and colleagues while being in with a chance of winning some seasonal cycling goodies. The prizes available range from high-vis jackets, water bottles and bike pumps to cinema vouchers for Vue cinemas.

In the previous challenges, January had 332 participants braving the cold weather for two weeks to log 4,000 journeys covering 22,000 miles cycled, while last September the challenge ran for four weeks with 20,000 journeys over 104,000 miles!

As June looks set to be warm and mild, many more are expected to be encouraged to get on their bikes, log their rides and win prizes as well as earning bike miles to get discounts in selected shops.

This challenge marks not only national bike week but also the start of Travel for Cambridgeshire’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund programme, which will see TfC’s services being offered to employers in the St Neots>Cambridge>Royston corridor.

If companies wish to get involved with running events for the summer challenge or encouraging their staff to get pedalling, they can contact Travel for Cambridgeshire on 01223715550 or  info@tfw.org.uk to see how they can help.
