Twelve take-off tips for Christmas - ho ho ho away you go

Stansted Airport is gearing up for a busy festive getaway with over 820,000 passengers forecast to travel through the terminal between now (19 December) and 2 January 2015.

Top destinations include Dublin, Rome and Barcelona and winter hot spots such as Athens, Larnaca, Dubai and the Canary Islands. To help passengers getaway with minimum fuss the airport has put together its festive ‘Twelve take-off tips for Christmas’ to help them on their way.

"Good preparation is key for any journey," said Stansted Airport’s Director of Customer Service, Karen Smart, "and as we approach the busy festive getaway we want to help passengers jet off as effortlessly as possible so have prepared our twelve take-off tips for Christmas to help them on their way."

Stansted’s twelve take off tips for Christmas are:

Before coming to the airport:

  • Check hand and hold luggage is within size and weight limits set by your airline.
  • Put hand luggage liquids in clear re-sealable plastic bag (20cmx20cm), no container over.
  • Visit www.stanstedairport.com/security for up to date advice on what you can and can’t take.
  • Don’t wrap presents in hand luggage as these might need to be unwrapped at security.
  • Crackers and party poppers can’t go in hand luggage but check if you’re airline will allow you to check them in.
  • Check timetable alterations for public transport and pre-book tickets.
  • Check for any planned road works if driving and pre-book parking.
  • Leave plenty of time to get here and arrive at least two hours before your flight.

At security:

  • Remove laptops, tablets, plastic bag with hand luggage liquids and place separately in tray.
  • Remove all coats, take belts off and ensure all pockets are empty.

Once through security:

  • Flight information screens now give a real time countdown to gate numbers. These are located along the main route through the departure lounge and in all shops, cafes, bars and restaurants so keep an eye on those screens to see how long it will be until your gate number is confirmed.
  • As soon as your gate number is confirmed, make your way to the relevant gate number and get ready to take flight.
