TWI hosts ISO meetings for plastic pipe use and production in industry

TWI hosted two ISO meetings to discuss technical specifications for polyethylene pipes. The meetings, which took place between 13 and 16 February, saw representatives from nine countries around the world come together as part of an ongoing process.

The first meeting, to discuss in-line compounding for the production of gas pipes, was attended by representatives from Canada, Germany, Japan, UAE, South Korea, UK and USA. Due to the amount of work to be covered, this biannual meeting was extended from the usual one day to take place over two days.

The second meeting, which was also extended to take place over two days, discussed two draft documents related to developing phased array ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) standards for butt fusion and electrofusion joints in polyethylene pipes. These discussions included representatives from Netherlands, South Korea, Switzerland, UAE, UK and USA, who were also given a demonstration of TWI’s phased array ultrasonic inspection system for PE pipe joints, PolyTest™.

The meetings were successful in advancing the technical specifications for both working groups and TWI was honoured to host these important discussions. With both projects set to continue, TWI will be part of the discussions when they reconvene later in the year.
