Two Cambridge Design Partnership experts speak at MEDTEC Europe 2013

Two experts from Cambridge Design Partnership will be speaking at leading European medical technology conference, MedTec Europe.

Cambridge Design Partnership will be at the leading European conference for medical technology, MEDTEC Europe, on 26-28 February 2013, in Stuttgart, Germany. MEDTEC Europe has been referred to as ‘the crème-de-la crème’ of medical technology conferences, and last year it played host to an impressive 14,000 attendees and 1,017 exhibitors from 32 countries in Europe, America and Asia.

At the event Ian Scrimgeour, Consultant Product Design Engineer and Usability Specialist, and Dr Keith Turner, Partner and Physicist will both be speaking.

Ian will give a presentation entitled ‘Taking the mystery out of design requirements: The role of Human Factors in design control’. Ian is speaking at 3pm on Day One in the main conference, as part of the Human Factors module, and will be covering all aspects of design usability including:
• Taking the mystery out of design requirements – The role of Human Factors in design control
• Ensuring user requirements are reasonable, relevant and valid
• Integrating human factors engineering into a design control process to create innovation

Ian’s presentation comes at a critical time for usability in the Medical technology sector. The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a guidelines document on Human Factors Engineering for Medical Devices that is likely to be ratified later in the year, ushering in big changes for device manufacturers and their customers.

You can read more from Ian about how you can navigate the changing design requirements of this new regulation here.

Keith will be speaking in the Innovation Forum at 11.30am on Day 2 of the conference. His presentation, titled ‘Outsourced Medical Device Development: Speeding up innovation for a faster, better result – Getting more innovative products to market quicker’, will focus on the benefits of outsourcing to a specialist product and technology design consultancy, as a way of gaining competitive advantage through tapping into a dedicated resource of knowledge and expertise, and delivering more innovative products to market faster.
