Horizon Discovery Group, the life science company headed by Darrin M. Disley, an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning at Cambridge Judge, was named Business of the Year at the Business Weekly 25th anniversary awards.
SimPrints, a company on the Accelerate Cambridge programme at Cambridge Judge that is developing a biometric fingerprint scanner to provide greater access to health records in developing regions, was named Startup Company of the Year at the awards ceremony, which was held on 17 March at Queens’ College, Cambridge.
Darrin Disley, who holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Cambridge, listed his Cambridge-based gene-editing company on the AIM market in London in 2014. He received the Business Weekly award from Tony Purnell, head of technology development at British Cycling, the guest speaker at the awards.
SimPrints last year received a $250,000 grant from the Saving Lives at Birth Grand Challenge, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which grants awards to promising innovations to combat maternal and neonatal mortality in the developing world. That grant was matched by Cambridge-based ARM, whose technology is used in 95 per cent of the world’s mobile phones and many other devices.
