Two of the most influential professionals in the global technology sector, the speakers will discuss the changing face of technology and how we now rely on data centres – even when we don’t realise it.  From text messages to traffic lights, from ATM machines to air traffic control, modern technology depends on data centres, or “the cloud”, to function.

Equinix is a company that connects the world’s leading businesses to their customers, employees and partners through data centres in 41 markets across five continents, while Uber’s core business connects passengers to drivers through apps.  Today Uber operates in over 400 cities worldwide and handles vast amounts of data.

Nelson, the former head of data centres at eBay, joined Uber last September.  On his first day in the role, he blogged: “While the world talks about the future of self-driving vehicles, Uber launches it as part of their core business. No speculation, actual rides!

“Uber city expansion is a challenge in and of itself, but imagine the amount of data being generated from these self-driving cars.  That data needs to be collected, ingested, analysed and acted upon rapidly.  This is Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning on a grand scale.”

The keynote address is free to attend and is hosted by CNet Training, the global leaders in data centre and network infrastructure education, and Anglia Ruskin University, who worked together to create the world’s first and only Masters degree in Data Centre Leadership and Management.

Dr Terri Simpkin, Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Corporate Education at Anglia Ruskin, said: “The underpinning platform of our lives is provided by data centres and the efficient, effective management of them is crucial.

“Two leaders in the field come together for this event to discuss the role of digital infrastructure and the challenges faced by a digital economy.

“Uber are fast becoming a household name while Equinix are one of the most influential and rapidly growing organisations in this sector.  It promises to be a must for anyone interested in the growth of the digital economy and the future of business.”

The event, which runs from 10.15am until 12pm on 14 June at Anglia Ruskin’s Lord Ashcroft International Business School, is free to attend but booking is essential.  To reserve a place, visit https://the-evolution-of-business.eventbrite.co.uk
