Creative agency challenged to make academic rigour accessible
Alun Shooter, Creative Partner at The District, says: "This is an exciting brief - and one that is not without challenge. Our role is to express intellectually complex concepts but do it in such away that makes them understandable to people with different levels of understanding. Equally part of our role is to communicate this research in an exciting way.
“So far it's been really rewarding to work with people that not only have such a passion for their work, but that also really understand the importance of the visual. We look forward to the results."
Assembling Alternative Futures for Heritage, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, is analysing how organisations from a range of disciplines, such as the China National Academy of Arts, The Frozen Ark Project and a Swedish nuclear fuel and waste management company, record and archive information for the future.
The research programme is a collaborative effort between academics from UCL, the University of Exeter, the University of York and Linnaeus University in Sweden and the results will contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable approaches to heritage conservation.
The programme’s Principal Investigator, Dr Rodney Harrison, adds: “The District have not only contributed their expertise to the design of the website and development of the project brand, but have also helped us to clarify and better articulate our aims for our research project. Their thoughtful and intelligent approach to all aspects of the process has contributed significantly to the intellectual as well as presentational aspects of our work.”
About The District
The District is a creative agency founded in 2004 by two people who wanted to do things differenter. It is always very difficult to categorise what we do due to the breadth of our work, but broadly it covers brand, digital, print & film. Over the past twelve years the agency has helped clients sell energy drinks, got bums on seats and people through doors. We’ve put a Science Centre without a home on the map, brought bricks and mortar to life and changed the face of the high street through art.
