Intended as a conference for engineers, computer scientists and designers working to develop intelligent systems and devices, more than 30 embedded system tool and technology vendors sponsored the event and provided workshops, presentations and an exhibition. More than 170 engineers attended the one-day conference, which was run in Bristol, Cambridge and Manchester on different days.
"The feedback has been very positive," said Richard Blackburn, Event Organiser. "The delegates really valued the technical content of the event, finding it both interesting and useful.
“The exhibitors valued the opportunity to meet with senior development engineers in a relaxed environment, enabling discussions regarding recent developments, new products and future trends. It was a very friendly and productive event, and we are very pleased with the way things turned out."
Workshops at the event discussed such topics as hardware/software interfacing, advanced debugging techniques and software coding standards for safety critical applications. The presentations explored recent developments in PCB CAD software, enclosure design, code verification tools, the protection of intellectual property and the integration of touchscreen technology.
The exhibition included some of the world's leading vendors in this market, such as Lauterbach, Wind River, QNX, Perforce, Pebble Bay and SDC Systems.
"We think that the smaller venues at multiple locations definitely helped to make the Device Developers' Conference more accessible to busy engineers and a lot more relaxing on the day," said Richard. "Also, the focus on the technical, with very capable and experienced presenters, meant that developers had many opportunities to gain valuable new insights and knowledge in their particular areas of interest."
Many delegates at the event entered a prize draw for a Blue Chip RE3 single board computer. Delegates were also invited to undertake 'The Programmers Challenge' to win a Kindle. The winners of both will be announced shortly.
"All in all, we feel that this first event was a success and we are looking forwarding to running it again in May 2014,' said Richard. "Many of the vendors have already offered sponsorship for next year's event and many delegates have said they would come again. We have a lot of new ideas for next year's content and we may look at running it in Scotland also."
