UK leads the way in European ISO 27001 certification

The UK has seen a 34% growth rate in ISO 27001 certifications, according to data released in 2018 by ISO, a huge step forward for UK data protection according to IT Governance founder Alan Calder.

Calder said: “This increase in certifications is very encouraging and means more organisations are heeding the warnings that we as a company issue on a regular basis regarding the dangers of not being compliant.

ISO 27001 certifications in the UK top the likes of China, Germany and the US. ISO's last report saw the UK at 21% for ISO certifications meaning that certifications have grown by 31% in 12 months.

It is also an 800% increase in ISO 27001 certifications in the UK since the report began in 2006.

ISO/IEC 27001:2013 (ISO 27001) is the international standard that describes the requirements for an ISMS (information security management system). IT Governance has delivered qualification-based training to more than 7,000 people worldwide on implementing and auditing ISO 27001.

Calder added: “The benefits of achieving ISO 27001 certification are widely reputable and have proven instrumental in ISMS implementation and auditing in a variety of industries. These benefits include avoiding penalties and financial losses due to data breaches, and meeting local and global security laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).”
