International academics, practitioners and policy-makers will attend the event in Cambridge and discuss the benefits and pitfalls of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, which have made headlines across the globe thanks to their fluctuating value over the past couple of years.
There will also be workshops on subjects like the efficiency of cryptocurrencies, their effect on each other, and issues brought about by their rapid growth. These will be followed by a panel discussion and awards for best research paper and best student research paper.
Speakers include Anglia Ruskin’s Dr Larisa Yarovaya, who is also conference chair, Professor Brian Lucey of Trinity Business School in Dublin, and Dr Shaen Corbet of Dublin City International Business School.
Dr Yarovaya, Director of the Centre for Financial Research at Anglia Ruskin, said: “Cryptocurrencies have experienced rapid growth in recent years as we increasingly trade online. However, there is still a lot we do not know and more research needs to be done.
“This is the first research conference of its kind to bring together academics studying cryptocurrencies and it will provide in-depth insight into where this research needs to be concentrated and what kind of impact it has on investments worldwide.”
The conference will take place on Thursday 24 May at the Young Street building at Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge campus from 9am until 5pm.
