PlayDaze, the free summer programme for primary school-aged children and families from Cambridge City Council’s Children and Young People’s Participation Service (ChYpPS), will run across the school holiday period from Monday 27 July until Wednesday 2 September.
Events and activities in the form of pre-recorded videos, creative art and crafts sessions and bookable workshops on different themes will be available throughout the period via the ChYpPS Facebook page at www.facebook.com/chypps
The council is also teaming up with the University of Cambridge Museums for some of the sessions, allowing families to explore a range of exhibits from the museums.
Families will be supported to take part and have some fun at home through free activity bags which are being distributed. In total, 1000 activity bags containing craft resources and worksheets are being made available via local organisations and at two free Scrapstore events – from 10am-2pm on Friday 17 and Friday 24 July at the Meadows Community Centre.
Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Keeping children entertained across the school holidays can be a challenge at the best of times, and I know many families feel it’s going to be harder this year, after so many months of lockdown.
“I hope the PlayDaze programme will give families a few more ideas about how to have fun, be creative and perhaps even learn something new!”
