Want better data security? – then handle data like you handle cash

Today is International Data Protection Day. Sharing customer data only as prescribed by law and keeping it safe is not only a legal requirement for organisations, it's also a social, moral, and business imperative. And yet, data breaches continue to be reported on a frequent basis.

As far back as 2012, FBI Director Robert Mueller, is quoted as saying:

“There are only 2 types of companies: those that have been hacked and those that will be hacked”

Let's hope that he's not proved right!

At the time of the record-breaking fine imposed on British Airways, we argued that businesses should not only continually review data security but go one step further. 

Everyone in organisations at every level should treat data like cash.
