Want to learn more about stress? The Salimetrics featured analyte this month is Cortisol

In 2014 Salimetrics introduces a new feature on its blog, the Analyte of the Month, presenting a new analyte from its salivary assay range each month. The blog entry should help you understand the biological functions of the molecule, but also portray potential applications you might want to consider in your research.

Cortisol, also known as Compound F or hydrocortisone, is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal cortex in response to stress.

It is a major part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and is involved in the regulation of the energy metabolism, various immune functions and in inflammatory responses.
