Over 200 guests from industry took their places in The Hall at King’s as The Welding Institute’s President, John Baxter, and TWI Associate Director of Professional Affairs, Chris Eady, opened the ceremonies. John Baxter thanked TWI for hosting the Dinner and continued the proceedings by offering his congratulations to the award winners, applauding their collective expertise, dedication, accuracy, rigour, professionalism and the influence of their work.

The race to embed new technologies in industry, and to light the way forward as these winners have done, was the theme of guest speaker Herman Hauser CBE.
The founder of Cambridge’s Acorn Computers spoke keenly of the wide-reaching ‘business’ of technology transfer and ensuring that industry achieved success by getting products to market in time. He compared TWI’s own success in working with its industrial partners as the vision or ideal to which, for example, UK Catapult Centres might aspire.
“Catapult Centres may achieve a 30% tie-in with industry, compared with TWI, which achieves 75%,” he said. “Technology is constantly advancing, speeding forward. We must make sure we take science breakthroughs and get them into industry as fast as possible . . . the companies putting technology transfer up front will be those who are fully prepared for the future.”
TWI Chief Executive , Christoph Wiesner, thanked Hermann Hauser for his address, and thanked everyone for attending – in particular the Professional and Industrial Members of The Welding Institute and TWI, along with their governing bodies and committees.
