Cambridge News & Media writes:

With entries now open for our 2018 Business Excellence Awards, your company has an opportunity to join an illustrious list of past winners. Some of the biggest names in the region feature on the roll of honour from past years, and credit their award wins with helping them on their journey to success.

Last year saw the top award, the Price Bailey Award for Business of the Year, handed to internet TV firm Amino. CEO Donald McGarva said of his company's success: “Cambridge is amongst the most vibrant and innovative business communities in the world and to receive such a prestigious accolade from your peers is a real privilege and honour. It’s great recognition of the progress you have made as a company and reflects superbly on the whole team’s efforts to build a successful business. "I would urge any company considering entering to just do it. It’s great for your profile – and an additional and valuable recruitment tool in our highly competitive skills market. The awards evening itself is a real highlight in the calendar and something we look forward to every year.”

Marshall Group was named Large Business of the Year in 2016. Christopher Walkinshaw, ‎group corporate communications director, said: “We were immensely proud to be the 2016 winners of the Large Business of the Year Award. The Cambridge News Business Excellence Awards are a hugely prestigious feature of the business calendar in Cambridge and to be recognised alongside so many outstanding local businesses means a great deal to Marshall, our employees and our customers. We wish all nominees for awards in the 2018 awards every success.” Another winner in 2016 was Horizon Discovery Group , which won the Business of the Year award, while founder and CEO Darrin Disley picked up Business Person of the Year in 2015. "Winning the business of the year and business person of the year awards provided a cross-sector endorsement of our business strategy, execution and contribution to the Cambridge business ecosystem," said Dr Disley. "The gala awards dinner provides a focal point for the business year and celebrating the successes of others provides encouragement for all to do even better in the year ahead."

In 2017 Harriet Kelsall was awarded the Independent Retailer of the Year award, Harriet Kelsall Founder of the company said: "We were absolutely thrilled to win the Independent Retailer of the Year award. In a trailblazing city like Cambridge, with wonderful entrepreneurs and innovators, there are many diverse, successful businesses on the cutting edge of all kinds of industries. Cambridge is full of brilliant independent retailers which are always in need of more support than the chains, so it’s great to have an award specifically for independent retail. I am overwhelmed that we won this amazing accolade - thank you judges and to the Cambridge BID for sponsoring this award."
