Women benefit from new state-of-the-art gynaecological suite at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital

Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital celebrated the official opening of its women-only health suite with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Professor Janet Todd OBE, the President of Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge.

Aptly named in honour of the celebrated all-women’s college, The Lucy Cavendish Suite has been expressly designed to provide personal care for women accessing gynaecological outpatient services in the Cambridgeshire region – with essential elements that offer private patient comfort, confidence and care.

Will Knights, Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital Director, welcomed guests to the suite and said: “It is a great honour to be associated with Lucy Cavendish College. This addition to the breadth of services at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital enables us to extend our offering of care for women in the community. The health services provided by the Lucy Cavendish Suite will present valuable medical care with leading consultants in a cosseted environment for women of all ages.”

The high-tech suite enables some of the UK’s leading Addenbrookes’ consultant gynaecologists to deliver first-class medical services for female patients, with the capability to offer same-day diagnosis – which can sometimes be crucial.

Mr Robin Crawford, Consultant Gynaecologist, said: “The Lucy Cavendish Suite provides an excellent environment for women attending the Spire Cambridge Lea for consultations and minor procedures. The comfortable and intimate setting allows women to feel at their ease during what can be a stressful time.”

Professor Janet Todd OBE officially opened the new state-of-the-art gynaecological suite on 19 March: “We are delighted to have such a strong relationship with the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. This is a wonderful concept and one that will be highly valued by the women of Cambridgeshire.

“I think we make a pretty good match – Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital cares for the physical aspects of women’s lives, and The Lucy Cavendish College cares for the educational.

"To celebrate this happy union, we are grateful for the generosity of the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital bursary. We look forward to a long and fruitful association between our two organisations.”

Professor Todd adds, “Women have a unique trajectory where work/life balance merges with all aspects of reproduction, both physical and psychological. The new Lucy Cavendish Suite is an excellent offering that beautifully supports the health and wellbeing of the women of Cambridgeshire.”
