Woodfines rises above national average for gender in the legal profession

The number of women entering the legal profession has been steadily increasing over the past 50 years. According to the SRA, on average, women make up 48% of all lawyers in law firms – a rise from around 10% back in the 1970s.

Woodfines writes:

We value our lawyers based on what they bring to our teams, and provide family friendly policies and agile working opportunities to allow our lawyers to balance their workloads with the needs of their families. As such, we have found that two-thirds of our current lawyers are female (66.5%), across all departments.

Woodfines is also ahead of the national average at a more senior level – the SRA reports that just 33% of women are partners in law firms across the UK. However, at Woodfines, our partnership is more evenly split, with 45% of women at the top level.

Maria Gallucci, Partner and Head of the firm’s Company Commercial department, says: “We are delighted to see that Woodfines is significantly above the national gender average in employing more women at a higher level across the firm. We work hard to meet the needs of our workforce, and believe that this commitment greatly contributes to making Woodfines such an attractive place to work.”
