Everyone is welcome at the free opening event on Thursday 7th June from 6.30 to 8.30pm at MichaelHouse Centre, CB2 1SU. More information.
There is also a ‘Children helping children’ art exhibition at Byard Art gallery between June 8-10. Children across the city have been painting A4 canvases that will be for sale. This theme really resonates with the volunteers as children are illustrating their talents, having fun, getting involved in this community project and giving back to children in need. The opening event starts at 5pm on Friday 8th June.
Supported by software giant, Citrix and Domino Printing, the events are all aimed at raising as much money as possible for local charities and voluntary groups supporting children and young people. The money helps with core running costs, typically the most difficult to raise funds for but can make the biggest difference to sustaining the inspiring work going on here in Cambridge.
Nine volunteers are behind this three year old initiative that has raised over £30,000 for local causes. You can hear their story from two of the volunteers, Andrea Lund and Tracy Wilkinson via this BBC radio interview with Jeremy Sallis.
Recently featured in Cambridge Independent, they are working hard to raise awareness and to encourage attendance at these events. This will help them raise more money this year to help local children and young people in need. Innovative thinking Acteon Communications entered the Citrix Charity Escape Room challenge last year that inspired them to create their own event for 2018: The Acteon Danceathon is taking place on Thursday 21st June from 7am to 10pm at David Lloyd, Coldham’s Lane. We have more news to come from Citrix who are taking their 2017 charity escape room and making it portable with a time travel theme. The team building project will have a shelf life beyond this week and we will soon announce the details. Likewise, Domino Printing are hosting a Summer themed cake sale encouraging their employees to ask their children to bake too. And to illustrate the point that activities for Cambridge Children’s Charity Week (CCCW) go beyond the 10th June, they are organising a children’s science workshop bringing local school children together with beneficiaries of the charities supported by CCCW. This demonstrates a growing trend that once companies join us they tend to support us every year as they can do ‘What works for them’.
Businesses are not the only organisations getting involved. Churches, colleges and schools are too. In fact, we are St John’s College School Parents’ Association charity of the year and they have been marvellous raising funds all year and encouraging their children to contribute to the Byard Art exhibition this weekend.
Naturally, cake sales and tea parties are also taking place as traditional fundraising is very much encouraged. We also love the idea of a roving tea party taking place during Wimbledon when charity mascots are going on tour visiting organisations hosting afternoon tea and cakes in support of CCCW.
