Your opportunity to learn about frugal and other innovation

Next month's Cambridge Network business event looks at innovation from two different perspectives: the Judge Business School's Professor Jaideep Prabhu talks about 'frugal innovation' or the ability to do more with less, while the Innovation Forum discusses collaborations between industry, academia and the public sector.

Join fellow Network members on Tuesday November 18th (6pm) to hear Jaideep Prabhu, Nehru Professor of Indian Business, who has studied innovation throughout his academic career.

Recently his focus has been on how small and large firms in emerging and developed markets alike are developing ingenious low cost solutions to address poverty and inequality. He is the co-author of Jugaad Innovation: Think Frugal, Be Flexible, Generate Breakthrough Growth, which was described by the Economist as “the most comprehensive book yet” on the subject of frugal innovation.

Prof Prabhu has recently returned from the European Maker Faire in Rome where he spoke about how ordinary people with limited resources are increasingly developing and commercialising low cost solutions in the West.

He said:  “Frugal innovation is a major source of affordable and sustainable solutions to problems of poverty, inequality and resource constraint worldwide. New technologies such as 3D printing, smartphones and the Internet of Things, as well as movements like the Maker Movement and the Sharing Economy, are driving the democratization of innovation everywhere."

Representatives from the newly formed Innovation Forum, a student-led body from the University of Cambridge, will also be speaking.  This multi-campus organisation, active in the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, London and elsewhere, seeks to promote innovation by linking innovative minds across academia, industry and the public sector through workshops, lectures and collaborations.

The Cambridge Network event, at The Hauser Forum, 3 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge CB3 0GT, is open to all Network members. There will be a light refreshments and an opportunity to network after the event, which is anticipated to end around 8.30pm.
