Zing Conferences is proud to be Cambridge's newest Community Interest Company

Zing Conferences, a Cambridge-based scientific conference company, has this week led the way for social enterprise by becoming Cambridge’s newest Community Interest Company (CIC- 9517813).

A CIC is a not for profit company with social objectives that works to earn profit for the purpose of reinvesting it to benefit a specific community. Zing has been successfully organising and running scientific and medical conferences internationally since 2007 covering topics from cancer to sustainable energy.   Profit generated from business will now be donated to nominated scientific research projects and student bursaries related to the conferences that have taken place that year to encourage further high quality research in the field.

Jane Hill, CEO, said “The scientific community has been very good to us over the years and now Zing wishes to give something back to them. We hope that the profit we are able to pass on really makes a difference to the vital and pioneering research we see at our conferences. We also appreciate that Universities and colleges are finding it a challenge to be able to send delegates to conferences each year. I have been told by several of our Chairs that our contribution, however small will be very welcome. The benefits of a Community Interest Company (CIC) far outweighs the benefits of a charity. It works with each individual community in science, letting them grow as much as they want without being capped. By working together on each project, we can extend the rewards for research development. I am delighted to be able to take Zing to a new level and with the support of our unsurpassable team of extremely professional staff, we are paving the future for conference organisers”.

Jane announces that “As well as using their assets for the public good, Zing is also passionate about the issue of women in science. This year we introduced a new gender equality statement explaining our policy on the gender balance of people speaking at and attending our conferences as well as a new advisory board which includes a representative of women in science”

Going in to the New Year, Zing has over 40 conferences, planned globally and is looking forward to making its first CIC donation to the scientific community.
